After receiving a B.S. in Economics with honors from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. with honors from Columbia University School of Law, Mr. Kaufman became associated with Cohen, Shapiro, Polisher, Shiekman & Cohen. Having become a partner in its litigation section in 1974, he was soon responsible for handling complex civil and commercial litigation. In 1981, Mr. Kaufman helped found the law firm of Kittredge, Kaufman & Donley. In 1989, Mr. Kaufman became a founding shareholder of KCR, where he continued his practice in diverse areas of civil litigation.
Mr. Kaufman's trial experience has covered the entire spectrum of litigation from highly publicized political disputes, to sophisticated commercial litigation, to domestic relations, to white collar criminal defense. Mr. Kaufman has been repeatedly recognized as a Pennsylvania "Super Lawyer" in Philadelphia Magazine. Examples of matters handled:
- Trial counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants in securities class actions and anti-trust actions;
- Representation of employees wrongfully discharged;
- Representation in disputes between business partners, including law firms and individual attorneys in matters involving the break-up of law firms;
- Representation of local unions in disputes with their parent or international bodies and of parties seeking to gain control of organizations, including unions and condo associations;
- Criminal defense in securities litigation and other white collar matters;
- Representation of both plaintiffs and defendants in large professional malpractice cases;
- Representation of both plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial disputes, including non-compete agreements, confidentiality agreements, and trade secrets;
- Defense counsel representing retailers throughout the state in connection with mass tort litigation; and,
- Representation of charities and potential beneficiaries in will contests and other Orphans Court matters.
Mr. Kaufman has served on the Professional Guidance Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association, and has been a Hearing Officer for the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board. Mr. Kaufman also serves on the Board of Directors of Nancy's House. |
